More people with points
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007In a recent survey by a leading insurance brand, it has been reported that the number of people with points on their licence has nearly trebled in the last 3 years.
Looking at a study of over 25,000 insurance quotes, it was found that 29% of people applying for insurance had at least one conviction on their licence. Of that figure, 19% had more than one conviction. This compares to just 10% of people that had a conviction in a similar survey 3 years previous.
Commenting on the findings, Andy Shaw of Alcatraz Insurance said “These findings are a worry in that many millions of people rely on having a driving licence to get to work. Additionally, many employers insist that a licence must be clean in order to satisfy company vehicle insurer stipulations”
Insurance can rise by as much as a third if you have 3 points on your driving licence. With the average motorbike insurance premium being around £250, this could mean an increase of nearly £85, which on top of the standard £60 fine means that riding a motorbike quickly could become an expensive hobby.
